Live From Spring Hill, It's Saturday Night!

Hello again, everyone. I and a lot of mutuals on Twitter are coming off a high of the Tampa Bay Lightning surviving a seven-game battle with the Toronto Maple Leafs and moving on to round two against those dastardly LOLCats from Broward County. Time to show those pissycats who actually RUNS this state...AGAIN.

Last night after I finished my last entry, I decided to watch an episode of WWE "Raw" from October 9, 2000. I won't go into long-winded detail about it, because it's already on the web somewhere, but for you wrestling fans out there, long story short, "Commissioner" Mick Foley had suspended Stone Cold Steve Austin indefinitely on the previous week's "Smackdown!" because he kept interfering in matches and handing out stunners to everyone. Keep in mind that this was a result of Stone Cold and Mick Foley trying to get to the bottom of who ran him over with a car during the previous year's Survivor Series PPV (now it's called a "premium live event"). Well, at the end of "Raw," Foley found out who the culprit was; Rikishi, who happens to be cousin of the WWE(F) Champion at the time, The Rock (Dwayne Johnson). Rikishi then cuts a promo (speech for those who don't follow sports entertainment) about how he and The Rock were being held back from being ultimately successful because they were Pacific Islanders.

That got me to thinking...Jimmy and Jey Uso, current Smackdown Tag Team champions, are the real-life sons of Rikishi, and Roman Reigns is current WWE Champion. Reigns is also a relative of Rikishi. So, here you have that promo from an episode of Raw all those years ago, compared to what's happening today in WWE. Now that is some long-term storytelling, and it's not over. A recent episode of "Young Rock" alluded to Joe Anoai (Reigns) as a little kid watching Raw and wanting a young Rock to acknowledge him, just like today. So, I and others who follow WWE are speculating that next year at WrestleMania, we will see Reigns vs. the Rock. Talk about next-level storytelling...

I haven't dug into the tragic news from Buffalo today, but gosh almighty, when will these senseless shootings stop?

The rumors are apparently true, Vladdy P has cancer. Meanwhile, in a somewhat related note, Ukraine won the annual Eurovision song contest this afternoon.

Remember the post I made about a radio station I used to listen to being back online? Well it was down for several weeks, but it's now returned as part of the FadeFM family. Along with that station, there's also a channel known as "Florida Breakbeats," which reminds me somewhat of late-night raves at the old Edge nightclub, which is now Ace Cafe. That was by far my favorite hangout (other than the old O-rena) when I was in the Naval Training Center in Orlando. Now the training center is Baldwin Park, and when I first visited in 2005, I admit I got a little bit misty-eyed. Hell, practically all of Orlando now is unrecognizable from when I last lived there some thirty years ago. Anyway, that's what I'm listening to now.

Speaking of now, time to get my drink on. Cheers, everyone!

Friday Flashback 5/14/83

Hello again, everyone, and Happy Friday the 13th. It has been a minute (actually about three months) since I posted a flashback Friday post, but my mental and emotional health had been on the fritz during that time. Although there still are things going on that I'm not at liberty to discuss, I do feel well enough to make this post at least. That said, here's a look at the Top 40 songs according to Billboard Magazine for this week in 1983:

40. The One Thing by INXS. Nobody outside of Australia knew at the time how massive this group would become. RIP Michael Hutchence.

39. I'm Still Standing by Elton John. A song that is basically a bleep you to any and all exes out there.

38. Gimme All Your Lovin' by ZZ Top. The first song off their Eliminator LP, and the first video that featured the three hotties and the "Eliminator" car, which created massive airplay on MTV and got the band a new generation of fans.

37. Do You Really Want to Hurt Me by Culture Club. One of the first music videos I remember seeing, and the first time I remember seeing a male dressed as a female, which led me to ask myself, "you can do that?" In retrospect, one of my late mother's favorite programs, "The $1.98 Beauty Show," also had drag performers (although I didn't realize it until later in life), but I was way too young to figure out what was going on.

36. One on One by Hall and Oates.

35. Never Gonna Let You Go by Sergio Mendes. This song was mainly forgotten until a few years ago when the Michelin Tire Company used it for one of their ads.

34. So Wrong by Patrick Simmons.

33. I Couldn't Say No by Robert Thomas Corral with Carlene Carter.

32. Some Kind of Friend by Barry Manilow.

31. Welcome To Heartlight by Kenny Loggins. Not to be confused with Neil Diamond's song "Heartlight" from the year before that was featured in the movie E.T.

30. Try Again by Champaign. There's a few things I'd like to try again myself...

29. Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) by Journey. This was undoubtedly one of my favorite songs that year.

28. It Might Be You by Stephen Bishop.

27. She's A Beauty by the Tubes. Another one of my favorites from that year.

26. Family Man by Hall & Oates. This song could be one of Twitter's theme songs if you think about it...

25. Stranger In My House by Ronnie Milsap. True story; my across the cul-de-sac neighbors were related to Ronnie Milsap.

24. Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. The song that changed pop music forever and lauched the vieo music era into the stratosphere.

23. Don't Let It End by Styx.

22. Always Something There to Remind Me by Naked Eyes. This song haunts me for some reason.

21. Mornin' by Al Jarreau.

20. Faithfully by Journey. Something I'd like to be, just nobody has given me a chance yet.

19. Affair of the Heart my Rick Springfield. I think as time has gone by, Springfield's work has been underappreciated.

18. Even Now by Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band. Just the other day, someone on Twitter asked about driving the backroads and listening to Bob Seger. I replied by asking "Shame On The Moon?" You could add this song to that list.

17. Time (Clock of the Heart) by Culture Club.

16. Mr. Roboto by Styx. Another favorite from that year. But nobody spraypainted "Kilroy Was Here" anywhere in Orlando from what I remember.

15. Straight from The Heart by Bryan Adams. His debut track. I thought it was "Cuts Like a Knife" but not so. Guess my memory is slipping a little bit. Uh-oh.

14. Rio by Duran Duran. This song is geographically confusing. Listening to the lyrics, you'd think they were talking about the Rio Grande, but watching the video and listening to the music, it sounds like they're taking about Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Or could they have been singing about the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul?

13. Photograph by Def Leppard. I used to have a picture of my third grade class from Orlando Christian School. I lost it with half my other stuff when "Hurricane Denise" disrupted my life about a decade ago. Damn.

12. My Love by Lionel Richie.

11. I Won't Hold You Back by Toto. As a little kid, my one sister and I would try to sing along to the lyrics. Nowadays, I cringe when this song plays.

10. Der Kommissar by After the Fire. America's first look at Falco, God bless his soul.

  9. Solitaire by Laura Branigan. A vastly underrated song in my opiinion.

  8. Little Red Corvette by Prince. Baby you're much too fast. Yes you are...

  7. Flashdance...What a Feeling by Irene Cara. According to my numbers, this song actually rated higher than "Every Breath You Take" on the Billboard charts. I think I mentioned how I do my song ranking system in a previous blog post several years ago, I'll have to dig it up sometime.

  6. Come On Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners. I thought when this song came out, this band would be the "next big thing." Alas, it was a mere one-hit wonder.

  5. She Blinded Me With Science by Thomas Dolby. Good Heavens, Miss Okimoto, you're beautiful!

  4. Overkill by Men At Work. When tis song came out, I swore in the final chorus, Colin Hay, the lead singer of MAW, sang "I gotta go dookie!!" It was later in life he was actually singing, "I'm diving in too deep!!" Don't you just love how kids minds work. 😆

  3. Jeopardy by Greg Kihn Band. Before the iconic reboot of the classic game show, "Jeopardy!" there was this hit song, and subsequent parody song "I lost on 'Jeopardy!'" by Weird Al Yankovich.

  2. Let's Dance by David Bowie. My first exposure to David Bowie; I was too young for the Ziggy Stardust era.

and the number one song 39 years ago this week in 1983 was...

  1. Beat It by Michael Jackson

Such an iconic video. Just like "Billie Jean" and of course his masterpiece, "Thriller."

Well, I'm off to watch "Smackdown" and go on Twitter. Until next time.

The Fish Are A Bitin'

Hello again everyone. Back on here after a few weeks away from the laptop and ready to type. I've noticed something quite disturbing going on lately. No, it isn't the whole Roe vs Wade debacle that's taking place. No, it isn't Governor Ron DeSantis being a royal d*ck once again. No, it isn't the loathesome Broward County LOLCats on the verge of winning a series in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since I was in the Navy. It's the insane number of catfish that has been trying to get up with yours truly the past couple of months.

After my failed attempt to land a girlfriend a couple of months back, I have received a plethora of friend requests on Instagram. Fortunately, I set my profile to private so I can screen these requests. Most have no sense of typing in proper English (which leads me to think that they aren't who the picture describes them as, they're posing from overseas, likely south Asia). And another thing, why are they more often than not pretending to be Angie Varona? I mean come on! I don't know her, and she sure as hell doesn't know me. And what did she do (other than the obvious) to attract the attention of every catfish scammer this side of Miami??

It's not just Insta either. Some catfish have infiltrated Twitter and are doing the same thing, in my DMs. Like who are these people? Nine times out of ten I just ignore them. The one time I do, it's someone usually who isn't active on Twitter other than posting the occasional (and sometimes NSFW) thirst trap. Most of them don't seem (to me at least) very intelligent.

Same thing on Facebook, too. One I encountered there claimed to be from Indio, CA and went by the name of "Selena Pickens." Turns out "Selena" was using a picture of a Russian supermodel, who's more than likely NOT in Indio, CA. SMDGH.

Look, here's the thing. There maybe one or two I'm kinda interested in, and that interest for now is VERY casual at best. Remember, I'm playing with the deck stacked against me so to speak because of my disability as well as other factors (cough *sister* cough). As for the one I was interested in a couple of months ago? Well, I could hope and pray that she breaks up with her bf, but the chances of that happening are slim and none, and Slim is leaving town. Do I get lonesome? Yes and no. Would I love to have a woman to do all sorts of fun things with? Absolutely. But realistically, I just don't see that happening right now, so I'll just be content with Tweeting about sports, (COME ON BOLTS!) wrestling, 80s music and hashtags, as well as some politics (yuck). If something happens, it happens...

Maybe I should inquire about getting a Boston Terrier...

Until next time

An Epiphany Of Sorts....

Hello once again. Early this morning as I lie half-asleep, I suddenly had a thought about all the complaining I've done recently on Twitter (some of it justified) about the right and Elon Musk (more on him later), and thought to myself, "you know, I'm beginning to sound like my father." This almost caused me to get up and write this entry right then and there, but I slept on it for a few more hours.

Talking about my father is kind of a sore spot for me. He wasn't much of a father to me, maybe it because when I was born, he was already 54 and he had heart surgery by the time I was three. Oh, and did I mention that my sisters were playing with a Ouija board the night I was conceived? Wonderful. My dad though, was basically a workaholic. Throughout my childhood, he was either at work or in his little alternator and starter repair shop. We took vacations up until my mother's death in 1981. Usually, to see her folks near Lumberton, NC. That was near where we moved to in 1983. But he complained about everything and anything from what I can remember. By the time I got to my teens, much of his complaints were sexual in nature. Disgusting.

I know he didn't have the best upbringing, either. He grew up during the Great Depression, and from stories I've heard, his father was even more miserable than he was. I think it led my one uncle to drink himself to an early death, but that's another story. Dad would join the Navy during World War II, while he didn't serve in D-Day or the Pacific theater, he did see some action. If memory served me correct, he was aboard the USS Normandy(?). I haven't done much research into what that ship did during the war, because quite frankly, I wanted to separate myself from that, as well as my other parts of my family's history. I kinda just wanted to be left alone growing up. Come to think of it, that's probably the reason I've had difficulty establishing and maintaining relationships. He never taught me the birds and the bees, never taught me about consent (fortunately, I learned that on my own). But he did try to take me fishing, albeit with a bamboo pole while standing on a swampy tributary of the Lumber River. He used crickets as bait. I didn't catch anything, except a turtle.

You know, I'd rather not talk about him or his history. He's been dead for 11 years now, and thankfully he ain't coming back, even if his legacy will come back to bite me every so often. And I know most of what I've done and haven't done, falls on me. Too bad we don't get a mulligan in the game of life, but I don't want to be like my father.

Now, for why I was complaining in the first place. As most of you already know, one of the planet's most notorious narcissists bought Twitter. Most followers and mutuals are up in arms about it. Some saying that the worst president in the history of the United States will magically re-appear. Heaven forbid that happens, even if he says he isn't coming back to Twitter. I doubt he'll come back thankfully, but I think we could go without the misinformation that people like Musk like to peddle. Personally, I hope Twitter stays a free website. Otherwise, I would lose most of the people I do keep in contact with.

But, in case I do leave Twitter (I doubt it) you can follow me on these sites:

No, I wasn't drunk for this entry. Until next time,

It's Been Awhile (friday night drunk blog)

Good evening from the wang of America. I may or may not be affected by my favorite alcohol beverage as I write this, which means this entry may actually be fun. Anyway, there is plenty to catch up on.

WrestleMania in Arlington, Texas was fun. The first full Mania since the pandemic began definitely lived up to the hype. Even if I missed the first night because of North Carolina-Duke playing that night in New Orleans. Kinda difficult when your favorite rivalry in all of sports takes place on the same night as Mania. The outcome of the game was optimal, but North Carolina didn't finish the job. They blew a sixteen-point lead to Kansas on Monday night and lost the natty. No biggie when you see the big picture; they won a national championship in 2017, and while I may feel bad for the players and first-year coach Hubert Davis, I know the program is in good hands.

I had been feeling in a pit because of what happened the last month and a half, but I'm starting to come back around. Had a great day going out on Wednesday that was the boost I needed. Too bad I couldn't get drunk (like I am now) that day, but trust me, it was something I desperately needed. A special shout out to Samantha who helped make Wednesday possible.

Looking back, I don't really know why I was ghosted by (name redacted). There was no intent on my part to make her feel uncomfortable, but somehow, I did. I still have feelings for her, albeit somewhat muted now that she has a boyfriend (yuck). Speaking of which, I did tell off another that wanted some slimeball instead of me over on one of my insta pages, who I wound up blocking anyway. So AMF to that woman...

I've been playing "Re-education Through Labor" by Rise Against on a continuous loop all day. If I were a wrestler, that would be my theme. I don't know what kind of pop I would get from it, but I'd like ti think it would be awesome.

"White needles buried in the red, the engine roars but then it gives." If you listen to the lyrics, it's a great song, and one I wish a presidential candidate would adopt. First of all, fuck DeSantis and his draconian don't say gay policy. Furthermore, him going against Disney. I seriously hope this turns out to be his Waterloo and he gets voted out of Tally in November.

T****, why????

I think I'm too drunk to continue,

Until next time

April (Not) Fool's! Random Stuff...

Hello everyone, it's me doing some writing again to talk about the other stuff I left off in my last entry. I filled with Pepsi and ready to go. Besides with it now being April, we can say this: March Madness leads to April Anger, May Bargaining, June Acceptance, then Summertime Sadness.

Bombs Over Baghdad Belogorod

Overnight, news broke that a fuel depot in Russia was attacked, apparently by Ukrainian helicopters. If this were indeed the case and not a result of self-sabotage (remember these are the Russians we're talking about here), this could potentially be a game-changer, and not in a good way. NATO has stated time and again that they weren't going to put boots on the ground in Ukraine, and if Ukraine did attack a fuel depot on Russian soil, things might escalate to the point where NATO may have no other choice but to get involved. I haven't watched the news in a few days, but it's something we may want to stay tuned for.

Biden: uh-oh...

The Slap Heard Around The World

Unless you've been living under a rock awaiting the forty-millionth civilization annihilating asteroid, you're well aware by now of what happened at the Academy Awards Sunday night. At first I thought WWE would take immediate advantage and book the two (or at least caricatures of them) in a slap off for this weekend's WrestleMania in Arlington, Texas. But alas, they won't. Maybe it's for the better anyway, for you know what happened the LAST time WWE used caricatures for celebs. For those who don't follow wrestling sports entertainment, old Donny Boy got his ego hurt and wound up actually being in a WrestleMania match that year, and eight years later, he won stole the Presidency. As for Will Smith, he was asked to leave the ceremony after Chris Rock put his wife's name in his f---ing mouth, but refused. He then took the OSCAR for best actor. After mulling whether or not to punish Smith for his actions, Smith decided to take matters into his own hands. The moral of this paragraph? Actions have consequences, and usually not for the better.

This picture should get a Pulitzer...

That Escalated Quickly

This morning, I got a DM on my Instagram account. It started rather innocuously, accepting her friend request there. Not even a few minutes in, she says I'm nice because I was going to help her without knowing her concerning an art contest up in Canada, where she's from, and that it was a turn on for her. Well, thanks but we're kinda strangers. We get to introducing each other, I tell her about myself, and she does likewise. She then asks if I'm in a relationship, to which I say no (I told her about my last failed attempt last month). She has to leave (for work I assume), but comes back later. The conversation suddenly goes to me going to Canada to visit because life here is kinda boring without me really going anywhere without the aid of public transportation for the time being. Before I mention that I don't have a passport, she then says she could travel down to Florida. Then the conversation goes from 0-200 mph in the blink of an eye, telling me how she hasn't done the nasty since her husband died years ago, and says she's comfortable around me. Again, thanks for the compliment, BUT WE"RE STRANGERS! She then asks to see a picture, I oblige, hesitantly of a picture I took by the pool the other week. Then this happened:

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. WHOA. You haven't met me and you already want to drive down from Canada to have sex with me? I might be lonely, but Jeez Louise, I'm not desperate. Hey miss, you ever go to PornHub or OnlyFans to get your rocks off? Because that's what you should look into.

Suffice to say, I won't be talking to her again. As for who I'm interested in, well as I said, nobody right now, but there are a few that I infrequently talk to, but the combined chances of me going out with any of them are less than 0.00001% One's supposedly supports Trump (no chance in hell), and one other one is Vegan (nope, not doing that). Maybe this month will be different, that is if family doesn't butt into my business like they usually do. As for the last one, I'm still stinging a bit, but I'm open to be friends with her again if she wants...

Well, I guess I'll wrap up here and try to figure out why WWE Network on Peacock isn't allowing watching old Raws in Chronological order anymore. IN the meantime, enjoy your weekend.

April Angst, Plus Other Stuff...

Hi everyone. I was going to title this Part 3 of the last two entries, but since the national semifinals of college basketball take place after this month expires, I improvised, hehe.

So, Saturday, the Final Four happens with Villanova taking on Kansas in what will be the appetizer for the main event: Duke and North Carolina for the first time ever in the NCAA Tournament. As a man who spent most of childhood and teenage years in the Tar Heel state, this is almost a dream come true. The only thing that would have made it better is if they met in the Final, which almost happened in 1991, the only other year Duke AND Carolina were in the same Final Four, which happened to be the year I relocated from NC to Orlando. Now usually, I would root for North Carolina in this matchup. However, with this being Coach Mike Krzyzewski's last year of coaching basketball at Duke University (Which goes back to when I was in first grade!), I have to root for him and the Blue Devils. My disdain for the Blue Devils can resume next season.

As for the early game, well I don't really care who wins exactly BUT, a Villanova-North Carolina matchup would be extra special because of what happened in the 2017 final. Grudge matches are extra special, but the players (and in UNC's case, their head coach) are different, and for Carolina fans they're hoping for a (star player Brady) Manek Monday.

As for my preference as to who wins? Well, as I stated earlier, Duke. But here's the pecking order from most desirable outcome to least:

Duke over Kansas
Duke over Villanova
UNC over Villanova
UNC over Kansas
Kansas over North Carolina
Villanova over North Carolina
Villanova over Duke
Kansas over Duke

One other thing about the Final Four. I don't know if Dick Vitale, who is resting from his recent successful battle against cancer, but he did make his predictions on this weekend's games. From what he says, I think Duke may be in trouble Saturday night, but Coach K doesn't lose to a school twice in one year, right?

Other Stuff:

You know, I think I'll wait for the other stuff when I feel better...until later.
