Hello, everyone. Thought I'd come on here and say that someone has some explaining to do. No, not the subject of my last entry (I never got one anyway), but Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell. Up 24-10 in the second half of today's NFC Championship Game versus the San Francisco 49ers, instead of trying a rather long (but makeable) field goal that would have made it a three-possession game with 7:30 left in the third quarter, Campbell, who's known for throwing caution to the wind on fourth down situations, decided to for it. He failed, and it totally shifted the momentum of the game, which San Francisco won 34-31. He later did the same thing trailing 27-24 deeper in field goal range.
Dan, you've done a remarkable job with the Lions since you've been there, but dude, TAKE THE POINTS!! What happened after that? A fluke catch by Deebo Samuel on a pass that could have been intercepted that led to a touchdown, a lost fumble on the next Detroit possession, and a lot of things that can only be attributed to some as Nancy Pelosi-like witchcraft happened.
But long-suffering Lions fans will be forever haunted by Campbell's dumb decision for decades, unless they win it all in the next few years. Terrible for a fan base that has been through enough to be honest.
So, what happens now? The Super Bowl of Insufferability from possibly the most insufferable city in America, Las Vegas, Nevada. The Kansas City Chiefs (and millions of Taylor Swift fangirls) face off against the San Francisco 49ers in a rematch of Super Bowl LIV that happened in Miami. After that game took place, the world shut down for about a year and a half thanks to COVID. Hopefully, something similar to that doesn't happen this time around. Although, tongue in cheek I'd rather see an asteroid hit Vegas or Yellowstone to erupt than either of these teams winning. But, Dan you could have saved America from this, and...
I have more thoughts on this game on Twitter, so check it out.
