Hello good people, except for the Florida Panthers and some putz from nearby where I live. Won't go into detail but I have four words for him, step the fuck off. Now that I have that out of the way, this month has been nothing short of a disaster, except for a couple of things that I'll talk about in a moment. Remember the entry that I wrote about two weeks ago? Well, that's part and parcel why this month has been a disaster. Especially when you consider what my future goals and aspirations are (yes, even 50-year-old dudes have goals), and what I haven't really had the chance to experience in my life. So, yeah, that's really been weighing on me...a lot. But I can still rally, it may take me a week or two. Bottom line is I'm still around and writing in spite of several people hoping for the exact opposite of my hopes and dreams, some of which I've waited my entire life for.
Another thing I wrote about last month was about those stupid advertisements for certain online apps. Well, earlier this week, I happened to notice that the app I mentioned that had the obscenely long ad has a company, and I'll switch up the name so as not to completely expose them, I'll call them Pay Imperfect. I went to their website and looked to see if there was any contact info...there wasn't. However, they did have a LinkedIn bio. So, I took the time and went Grumpy Old Man on them in the email. I haven't heard a reply, nor do I plan on it. Oh, and as a side note, according to their website, they are based out of Tel Aviv and has very minimal staffing, so chances are they are nothing more than a shell company, or a clever start-up. Plus a few other things that I won't go into speculation on here about.
"We didn't have internet nonsense back in my day, and we liked it, we loved it!!"
Another reason this May has sucked is that Dear Leader's "Big Beautiful Bill" passed in the House last night. More tax cuts for the wealthy and nothing for the middle class and poor. Yay, class warfare. I'm counting down the days already for January 20, 2029...if not sooner.
seriously...fuck this buffoon
Okay, enough with the negativity. Something rather interesting and unprecedented is occurring in the NBA Playoffs. The final four teams this year are New York, Indiana, Minnesota, and Oklahoma City. Only the Knicks (in '70 and '73) and the Thunder ('79 as the Seattle Supersonics) have ever won the title before. This year will mark the seventh different team to win the Championship in as many years, which is a record in the NBA.
It got me to thinking, what similar streaks have there been in the other four major team sports leagues? Well, during my lifetime (since 1974) baseball had nine different winners from 1982-1990. In hockey? Also, nine (over ten years since there was no 2004-05 season) from 2003-2012. In the NFL has a streak of eight different winners twice, first from 1979-1986 and again from 2007-2014. Interestingly enough, both those streaks began with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
And in English football, Crystal Palace won a top-flight trophy for the first time in their over-100-year-old history by shocking Manchester City to win the FA Cup. This comes weeks after the club I root for, Newcastle United, won their first top-flight trophy in seventy years by winning the League Cup over Liverpool, who won the Premier League this season. Good to see some clubs that haven't been on top before or in a long time have their day in the sun.
Speaking of which, my day in the sun will be coming up soon. Had a conversation with my sister last night that kinda put things into perspective. Guess I'm a little anxious because it's a situation I honestly really haven't been in for a lonnnnng time, and me overthinking things are putting things in jeopardy right now. Like my other sister says, "slow down, Tyner."
I think I'll talk about it at length on my next entry, but for now, have a safe Memorial Day weekend.
