Some Other Things We Ought to 86

Hello. And before I begin, fuck the Florida Panthers. Anyway, there's been plenty of talk this weekend of "86ing" certain things. It all started when former FBI Director James Comey posted a photo on Instagram of some seashells on the beach which simply said "8647."

And of course, "dear leader" (and MAGA) got his (their) Depends in a wad and had him investigated, because Heaven forbid anyone says something bad about Trump.

Now while Trump thinks that "86" is slang for kill, but it means something else. According to Merriam-Webster, the term is a slang used ninety years ago in the hospitality industry meaning to throw out or refuse service to. I first heard of the term some thirty years ago in a jingle for Greyhound Bus Lines promoting a low bus fare to anywhere across the nation. I always thought it meant to get rid of or to shun.

Well, with that in mind, here is a list of some things that I wish we could 86:

  • Stupid car insurance commercials
  • Morgan & Morgan
  • Fox News and MSNBC (propaganda outlets)
  • the Florida Panthers hockey team
  • Paul Porter (actually, the Orlando Magic already let him go)
  • Showing Taylor Swift after every Travis Kelce play
  • if this were 20-30 years ago, talk shows
  • Dane Cook
  • anything to do with Barstool Sports
  • meme culture...actually scratch that, we need something to laugh about
  • DOGE
  • the Free-Dumb caucus (MTG, Boebert, Cruz, et al)
  • Pam Bondi
  • Organized religion
  • Liberty University
  • the Spring Hill Hooters
  • cancer
  • 75309 (IYKYK)
  • All these Katy Perry memes I've seen on social media.
Seriously, how long ago was launched into space? Over a month now? I think that those memes have run their course. Time to move on from that.

I'm sure that there are other things not listed here that should be 86'ed but I don't have time to list them all. Instead of using the term 8647, I have another idea. 2547, although if you add the digits in 8647 you come up with 25. I'm sure you've heard of the 25th Amendment...
